Tackling The Problem Of Noise In The Oil And Gas Industry

If you're new here at Alternative Energy HQ, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for all the latest updates on energy news. Thanks for visiting!

An expanding global demand has fueled one of the longest booms in America's oil & gas business. We are now seeing gas and oil rigs closer to residential developments leading to the challenging issue of noise control. Sound barrier walls are aesthetically acceptable, and provide a welcome solution for production companies and affected landowners alike.

Using Wind Power For Your Home

Alternative energy such as wind power is a great option for powering your home. There are a few things that you should consider before you purchase a wind generator.

* Local restrictions - Wind generators need to be relatively tall in order to take best advantage of wind. Many home owner's associations and local governing bodies have restrictions on the height of structures. Check and see before you build

* Wind power in your area - Some areas are just not beneficial for wind power. The center of the U.S., the dakotas, Missouri, etc. are excellent areas for good wind power.

* Wildlife - Yes wildlife. Wind generators have a bad rap for harming bird populations. Personally, I know many people that have wind generators that have never had a problem with birds running into them, though its certainly possible.

* Noise - Larger wind generators do make a little noise. They arent that disruptive to many, but you should actually listen to the unit you are interested in while it is running to get an idea of what kind of noise this unit puts out.

* Space - Wind generators are relatively small, though their structures can leave a big footprint. The higher your tower goes, the wider the guy wires will need to be for stability. Making sure that you have the needed room before you purchase will save a lot of headaches later.

Wind power by itself, may not be enough for your power needs. Today's home wind generators aren't the big cumbersome units of yesterday. Wind generators today can easily be combined with solar units on homes to create free power for the home owner. Using a wind generator by itself or in combination with another form of renewable energy is certain to provide you with clean renewable power for many years.

Federal And Local Regulations For Windmill Power

Several new instructions and guidelines as well as laws or local regulations have been enforced since the early 1980's. Each state differs in laws and penalties for windmill power. Before you invest time and money in a windmill, find out these important facts.

Although wind turbines have gained a lot of acceptance in the United States, locally you might have ordinances that regulate free standing wind turbines like height or noise restrictions. But these ordinances aren't extensive to the point of making it impossible to own a wind turbine. Some consumers read more into the regulations and guideline laws than they need to. Taken in the right perspective, a homeowner can have a wind turbine and still abide by these laws, in most cases.

Almost every state has restrictions, including a law that wind turbine fields cannot be built where birds are migrating. The state with the most conflict on building and raising windmills is California. There have been a few documented cases of lawsuits over windmills and their existence in different counties. Out of all the arguments made against wind turbines there is one point that is addressed by almost every state: how wind turbines affect the scenery. However, small wind turbines are being installed all over the United States without permits or fees to any government agencies.

Adding Windmill Power To Your Home

By adding a wind turbine to your home, you are providing an alternate source of energy. Creating electricity using windmill power< can help you reduce what you pay for utilities. Consider being able to live where power lines just won't go, or having power during a storm. Having a wind turbine would be a real advantage for situations like these. It's good for the environment, too. Future generations may use nothing but windmills to power their homes. And it could have a great effect on the economy.

Wind energy is one of the lowest priced renewable energy technologies available today. Stand alone systems, or off-grid living has its advantages. If you choose to live or build a home in a remote area where power lines are prohibited or not available, a wind turbine can power your home. Another reason consumers purchase small wind turbines for their home is to be energy independent from the local utility companies. As a part of being independent, or just having that alternate energy source available, these machines are built sleek as well as neat looking. Most have low maintenance. Over time a small wind turbine will pay for itself, an investment well worth the price you paid for it.

Wind turbines are good for the environment simply because they rely totally on the wind. That means no air pollutants or toxic gases are released into the atmosphere.

Another one of the nice things about your wind turbine is that if it is producing more electricity than your home is actually using, most times the local utility company will purchase the extra power from you. Depending on how much power you use, and how much your turbine generates, that can be a decent amount of money. Sometimes consumers buy home wind turbines just to be able to run a generator should their power go out. This can provide quite a bit of peace of mind.

Before purchasing a system, it would be a good idea to find out about any restrictions or obstacles when it comes to installing a windmill power system. For example, some places restrict the height of any structure in residential areas. There might be prohibitions on some types of structures in certain zoned areas.

Are Electric Cars A Part Of Your Future?

electric car

<

div>Heather Colman asked:

It seems that not so long ago, electric cars were a very distant possibility. However, in today's world, electric cars are becoming extremely popular and may very well be a large part of our not so distant future. Electric cars have been produced, tried, and tested by many manufacturers and consumers are excited about the prospect. Let us take a look at the many positives that can go with the future of electric cars and why we should consider it as a possibility in our own future.

Electric cars are all together cleaner and safer for our environment. By driving electric cars, our generation will virtually eliminate air pollution and make the air cleaner for future generations. Cleaner air to breathe is a necessity and electric cars can work to provide that.

Electric cars are more affordable than fuel powered cars. Studies on electric cars have shown that for a passenger vehicle it will cost less to run the electric cars, than filling your car up every week with gas. In fact, for about $30, electric cars can operate for one full month. With the price of fuel on the rise at a consistent speed, electric cars would offer our finances a nice break. Maintenance is more affordable as well; you will not have to worry about changing the oil, submitting your car for a smog check, or having a tune up performed on electric cars.

Noise pollution is something we all complain about, especially within the bigger cities. Electric cars provide a quieter environment for everyone concerned. The future of electric cars mean no more 3 AM wake up calls by our neighbor's loud cars. Furthermore, those that live close to busy streets and highways will sleep and live easier without the extra noises from the cars driving down the streets.
