The true cost of Solar?


Some argue that solar power is not yet cost competitive alongside the local power utilities. However look at this quick comparison from Florida.

The cost of a photovoltaic energy system, now about 9 cents per kilowatt hour (kwh), is higher than FPL's base charge for electricity. FPL, which uses natural gas, fuel oil, nuclear energy and other sources to provide electricity, bills residential customers more than 4.2 cents per kwh for the first 1,000 kwh each month and just over 5.2 cents after that.

Polysilicon Shortage - This Decade's Excuse for High Cost of PV Solar


Polysilicon is made from the sand and is the main material in a solar cell. The shortage of polysilicon is from lack of production rather than raw material.
